Hume to step back at Fox News after election (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Fox News Channel anchor Brit Hume will take a reduced role at the network following the elections.

Hume wont retire completely but will no longer be Fox News Washington managing editor nor anchor of the 6 p.m. newscast "Special Report." But he will remain with the network as a panelist on "Fox News Sunday," host special events for the channel and also have an office in the Washington bureau.

The Washington Post, which first broke the story, likened Humes new position as the kind of deal that retired "Nightly News" anchor Tom Brokaw has with NBC. The contract, which has yet to be finalized, will call for Hume to work about 100 days. Hume wanted to reduce his role to spend more time with his family.

A Fox News spokeswoman declined comment Tuesday.

Hume joined Fox News in 1996 and has been one of the channels leading stars. Before that, Hume was a correspondent for ABC News covering the White House and other Washington assignments for 23 years. He also has worked at United Press International, the Baltimore Evening Sun and the Hartford Times.
