Rihanna only has $20k to her name, claims ex business manager

Rihanna's ex business manager says the star has just $20,000 in the bank after Rihanna's management company used up the money from her endorsement deals to fund her albums and videos. All of these business expenses should be the responsibility of Rihanna's record label, Def Jam, but they didn't want to invest in Rihanna when her CDs failed to sell as expected. She has a lot of hit singles, but that doesn't translate to album sales. The ex business manager says that Rihanna's other management team made the decision to fund her career with her own money in an attempt to help her put out more records in a short period of time and build her popularity quickly. When Rihanna's business manager tried to show the 20 year-old pop singer that she was going broke through this practice, she claims that Rihanna was livid and fired her.

Rihanna’s now ex-business manager Patricia Willliams has been recently fired as she says “for no good reason, all in ignorance” and is “livid” with Rihanna her management company Rebel One’s decision to fire her. Rihanna recently met with her ex-biz manager to check on her funds and was shocked to see that almost all her money was missing. Rih-Rih instantly accused Willliams of “stealing her money.”

It’s not my fault that she only has $20,000 to her name.”

"I showed her all the paperwork and tried to explain to her the circumstances but she wouldn’t listen. She called me all sorts of horrible names and stormed off. I now feel compelled to share with the world the background story as I will not allow my name to be slandered”

The Barbados born singer has had four back-to-back albums, including a re-release since her debut of “Pon De Replay” in 2005.According to Willliams, Marc Jordan, manager and owner of Rebel One Management has been taking care of Rihanna’s financial situation with her.

“Def Jam doesn’t fund Rihanna properly, so Marc uses the money Rihanna makes from third-party endorsements and from tours to fund her album and music videos.” Since 2005, Rihanna has been sponsored by the likes of JC Penny, Samsung, Covergirl, Secret, Venus Breeze etc,. and has gone on two major tours, most recently label-mate Kanye West’s “Glow in the Dark” Tour and with Pussy Cat Dolls across Europe.”I don’t want to disrespect Marc’s name. He is a fantastic manager and genuinely believes in Rihanna. But he uses her money to fund her future projects because he believes he can break her in the world-market. Her album sales are not nearly as close to her single sales and he knows that if she is only known as a ’singles artist’ she will only be as good as her last hit. Unfortunately, he didn’t inform his client and I’m receiving the brunt of it"

”The song “Umbrella” was found Jordan fought again for Rihanna to have it. They shot the video, which CoverGirl funded half of, and the song became a success. When the record label had there meeting with Music Stores across the U.S to order her album for shipment, the number’s weren’t coming in the way that they expected. When the album’s first week numbers came in at less than 150,000, the label was shocked. Def Jam’s President LA Reid was livid! Umbrella was #1 for 11 weeks! Any other artist would have sold way more first week. T-Pain even did better in sales than her that week. Def Jam told Jordan they were no longer funding the album, so Jordan needed money again to pay for music videos ‘Shut Up Drive’ and ‘Dont Stop The Music’. Almost 250,000 was spent to have those videos created. Plus, an additional 120,000 to shoot ‘Hate That I Love You’. Jordan was noticing that ‘Dont Stop The Music’ was picking up, so her persuaded the label to support it at radio in the U.S and the remaining singles, and they did.”"Then came for the repackaging of her album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’, which is called ‘Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded’, that entire project was funded through Rihanna’s money.

‘Take A Bow’ was bought through her money, the video was created with her money and so is her most recent video and single ‘Disturbia’. The label didn’t even want to pay a dime for anything! Close to 750,000 was spent on those two songs alone. And now she expects to see money in her account?” Williams states that Jordan, her publicist from well-respected public relations firm 42-West, Alicia Silverman has built alot of hype around Rihanna’s name but the singer has only made “a little bit above a million” and “all of it was spent on making her as big as she is now."

That's incredible if it's true. A few years ago I saw a special on MTV about the ways that record companies screw artists out of money. They used the example of A Tribe Called Quest's critically acclaimed 1991 album, The Low End Theory, which sold a million copies but somehow only netted the band members less than $40,000 each. (I can't find the exact number, and it was probably even less than this.) You would think that Rihanna would be raking in the cash with all those endorsement deals, but if it's all the money is going to further her career she's not going to be rich for long. She's young, though, and has a lot of opportunities now. If this is what's happening her next step should be to hire someone to help sort it out for her. She can make millions back, but not with the manager that's using up all her cash and hiding it from her.

American Idol ready to assault your eardrums with new crop of auditions

Just when you thought is was safe for your ears to watch television, American Idol's auditions for season 8 have kicked off- with a whole new gaggle of off-key warblers packing into large auditoriums in cities across America hoping to wow Simon, Randy and Paula. Most recently, thousands of wannabe popstars crowded the New Jersey Meadowlands- most of them leaving in tears with no "golden ticket."

More than 15,000 American Idol wannabes auditioned for the hit show's producers Tuesday at the Izod Center in the Meadowlands. The few hundred that got picked will get a second audition. Those survivors will then go before Simon, Randy and Paula.

"I am so excited I'm just trying to contain it," said Christopher Bingham, 20, of Wauseon, Ohio, who wowed the judges with a rendition of "Gallery" by Mario Vazquez.

"I've wanted to do the show since it started."

Others weren't so lucky.

"I feel hurt," said Jyreek Ellerbe, 21 of the Bronx, who sang "Yesterday" by Shanice. "They rejected me. I don't think I was a bad singer. I honestly don't."

Some rejects exited the building in tears. One collapsed. Another distraught, tearful women harrumphed, "They're not looking for good singers. They're looking for an image."

The Bronx's TeaQue-N Thomas, 27, took her defeat in stride.

"I sang and they felt I wasn't needed for this season," she said after performing "Feel the Fire" by Stephanie Mills. "They don't know what they're missing."

The frenzied crowd began to queue outside the arena at midnight but security told them to come back in the morning. Registration ended at 8 a.m.

"I was about to start sleeping on the sidewalk," said Ed Love, 21, of Mastic, N.Y., who arrived at 3:30 a.m. but eventually bedded down in a hotel.

Tony Jackson, 23, was the last contestant to register at Gate A at 7:58 a.m. "I was running here," he said. "You see my sweating?"

Jackson performed Kelly Clarkson's "Beautiful Disaster" but didn't make the cut.

The cattle-call of contestants had no more than 30 seconds before getting the thumb's up or down.

"They cut me, man. They cut me," said Daniel Monge, Jr. of Yonkers before vowing, "I'll be back. I'll be back next season."

[From NY Daily News]

While the show is still a number one juggernaut for FOX, its ratings slipped last season. Many complained that the "bad auditions" portion of the show went on far too long, while the "Hollywood Week" segment was packed into a couple of hours. Viewers also felt that they were being manipulated into voting for the producers' and judges' obvious favorite, David Archuleta, who ended up finishing second behind David Cook. Personally, I think the show would be far more enjoyable with a new set of judges and the absence of one Ryan Seacrest. But most likely, when the show makes its return on Jan. 9, I'll be watching. With my ears plugged.

Sharon Stone is the newest cougar

Sharon Stone is a lady I would have always described as a cougar – long before she started dating a 24-year-old. There’s something about her long nails, penchant for fur, and generally abrasive personality that says, “I eat living creatures for snacks – and I prefer it that way.” But now it turns out Stone is the other kind of cougar – the kind that dates ridiculously young men as some sort of status symbol. Luckily for the poor fellow in question, it doesn’t sound like it’s too serious on either side.

Sharon Stone’s current love interest is half her age — and that hasn’t stopped him from bragging about her to all of his friends. “I’ve started dating Sharon Stone, and she’s pretty good for 50,” Chase Dreyfous, 24, told his pals at a birthday party at Crown Bar on August 8 in LA.

“Sharon called him and he showed the caller ID to everyone,” adds an insider. The unlikely pair, who met in early July while working together on Sharon’s charity, Planet Hope, were first spotted getting cozy at a party thrown by fashion designer Christian Audigier on August 2 in LA.

“She’s really into him and even asked him to come with her to Mexico,” the insider says. Sharon was married to media mogul Phil Bronstein for six years before they divorced in early 2004. Chase and Sharon stepped out at Christian Audigier’s “white party,” which was held to celebrate the birthday of Christian’s wife, Ira.

[From In Touch]

Yeah, she’s pretty good for fifty because she drinks the blood of three twelve-year-olds in a fruit-based cocktail every morning. I’m telling you Chase, be wary. I am absolutely certain she’s just watching over you before she bites into your neck. Calling Sharon Stone a cougar is easily the nicest thing anyone’s ever said about her. There is no way that woman is as maternal and loving as a cougar would be. She’s not even as kind as a black widow spider. If she tries to get you take out a life insurance policy with her as the beneficiary, run. I’ve seen all this in Lifetime movies, and I’m telling you now, it’s not going anywhere good.

Who wouldn’t want to date this fine thing? Here’s Stone on Friday. Images thanks to Fame.

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are back together

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams – who were named cutest couple ever (by me… very prestigious) have gotten back together! Cue hysterical girlie shrieks! It’s hard to say why these two were so adorable together – somehow they just seemed to fit. And they were pretty low key – you’d never accuse them of courting the paparazzi, but they also didn’t seem the type to get married and then never deny it (something only jerks do, in my still unchanged opinion).

Gosling and McAdam’s friends confirm that the two are dating again after breaking up around March of 2007.

On again! Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams have gotten back together, a source tells Usmagazine.com. "They've been talking a lot," a source tells Us. "Their friends are quite pleased that they're getting back together and are trying to give them space."

McAdams recently made an appearance at Gosling's weekly deejay gig at Green Door lounge in Hollywood. The two began dating shortly after wrapping their 2004 romantic film The Notebook.

"She's inspired me to do so much," Gosling told reporters shortly before their 2007 split. "She's the most discerning person I've ever met. She'll read a script 100 times. She's relentless."

After they called it quits, Gosling told GQ that women were "mad" at him. "A girl came up to me on the street and she almost smacked me," he said. "Like, 'How could you? How could you let a girl like that go?'" Of their split, Gosling said, "The only thing I remember is we both went down swingin' and we called it a draw."

[From Us Magazine]

When they broke things off it was supposedly because Gosling “needed some space.” Apparently a year and a half was enough space. Hopefully they’ll make it this time – the obviously managed to stay on good terms.

Nsync band members want to reunite; Justin Timberlake suspiciously quiet

Band reunions are fun. You get to take a bunch of people who used to be popular and are now utterly forgotten, used to have money and are now generally broke, and used to be hot and are now generally sagging – put them on stage together, and see what the hell happens. There are a few exceptions of course.

The Spice Girls were still famous when they got back for their reunion tour. The New Kids on the Block were considerably hotter when they reunited. There was a little talk about the Backstreet Boys reunion, which I assumed hadn’t actually happened because I never heard about it again. Turns out they’re broke, sagging, and still not famous – because their CD did come out, but that was about it.

Considering the success of the Spice Girls and New Kids on the Block reunions (and I use the term “success” loosely, depending on your own definition), a few of the guys from ‘Nsync think it’d be a good idea to get their group back together. Not surprisingly, it’s mostly the guy you’ve heard the least about since they broke up – the one who used to have the spider hair.

First the Backstreet Boys came back with a new album, then New Kids on the Block thrilled devoted fans with their return. Now 'Nsync's Chris Kirkpatrick is the one singing the reunion tune.

“Someday, there’ll be an ’Nsync reunion, but I don’t think the time is right now,” Chris, 36, who’s currently appearing on CMT’s Gone Country 2, tells OK!.

Even if the band’s return isn’t definite yet, Kirkpatrick seems hopeful that the guys can get together again somewhere along the road.

“We get along like brothers,” he says. “We all love each other — we all care about each other. I’m sure we’ll come back.”

We can just hear the new single now: “Hello Hello Hello.”

[From OK! Magazine]

Reading articles from OK always makes me think of that overly positive/hyper/clueless teacher you had in elementary school who would say all sorts of cheesy things completely oblivious to the fact that all the kids were laughing at her. That last line especially.

Justin Timberlake has been surprisingly quiet on the whole affair. Wonder why. Why in the world wouldn’t he want to be associated with a cheesy pop band now that he’s got a legitimate career? The other guys have all pretty much faded into the D-list/oblivion. It’s a sliding scale. But I’m pretty sure Chris Kirkpatrick is a few steps away from actually falling off the face of the planet. I’m guessing Justin Timberlake doesn’t even return his phone calls. He’s just like, “Chris who?” and then rolls around naked in a pile of money while singing “I Want You Back.”
