Jennifer Lopez performs at autistic kids? graduation

Jennifer Lopez gets a lot of crap for being a diva. To be fair, 96% of it probably comes from me. That’s right, I control the media. Regardless, it’s only fair to point out when she does something good, too. To be fair, Lopez isn’t exactly known as the next in line to steal Angelina Jolie’s humanitarian of Hollywood title. But she did something pretty awesome yesterday, by surprising some 10-to-12 year olds by showing up to their graduation.

Students at a Staten Island, New York, elementary school for autistic children sure like the way Jennifer Lopez moves.

Teacher Kathy Amati and a paraprofessional showed the video for Lopez's "Let's Get Loud" to the students at P.S. 37. The children liked it so much, they wanted to watch it every day.

They learned the lyrics and the dance moves from the video.

With their teacher's encouragement, they wrote to Lopez, hoping for pictures or an autograph. Instead, she asked to come to their graduation.

On Tuesday, the singer-actress performed "Let's Get Loud" for a group of eight 10- and 11-year-olds at their graduation ceremony.

How very Johnny Depp of her. I love it when celebrities do something nice, but what I really love is when they go above and beyond what was asked of them. And let’s face it, anyone willing to make the trek to Staten Island on that garish orange ferry is a good person just for that. While her motivations may just be to get some good PR, who the hell cares? Lopez did something really nice and I’m guessing it made the kids’ year. So kudos to her, and congrats to the grads.
