'Ripcords', a Musical Drama of Post-War Secrets, Will Play FringeNYC (Playbill)

Emily Skeggs and Michael McEachran are featured, and Gregg Wiggans will direct the work set in the 1950s.

Ripcords features a jazzy score by young songwriters Anne Berlin (book and lyrics) and Andy Cohen (music), who are making their New York City professional stage debuts this summer. Their whodunit, Charlie Chang and the Mysterious Salami, an irreverent and politically incorrect spoof of the old Charlie Chan film serial, has enjoyed a sold-out run at the Bad Musicals Theater Festival this past month. (No less than Liz Smith dubbed that show a "Laugh Riot.")

The six-person ensemble cast includes Jason Lawgren, Edward Prostak, Evan Enderle and Abby Marsh.

According to production notes, "In the 1950s, a new generation - called the silent generation, as they were too young to have served in the war, but too old to be considered Baby Boomers - came of age. Ripcords tells the story of one woman from that generation: Susan Davies, an office worker at the Champlain Line Company in upstate New York. Susan faces a decision: should she settle down and marry Charlie, her humble ex-GI fianc, or should she set her sights on more? Susans choices become more difficult when Joe, her old flame, and the soon-to-be president of the Champlain Line Company, arrives. With Joe comes a secret from the past: revelations about war profiteering, which have repercussions that affect the whole town."

Skeggs recently starred in The Irish Repertory Theatres extended run of Take Me Along. McEachran is a FringeNYC alumni who created the hero Miles Muldoon in How to Save the World and Find True Love in Ninety Minutes.
