Good dad Kevin Federline is on the cover of People

Kevin Federline and his two sons with Britney grace the cover of the upcoming issue of People Magazine. People has a preview on their website and in the accompanying article Federline talks about how he coped with Britney's breakdown and calls his sons more important than anything. He also claims that Britney blindsided him by divorcing him without warning, which contradicts Britney's recent statements that Kevin left her, not the other way around. I would tend to believe his side of the story because there's video of him looking shocked while receiving a text message the day before Britney filed divorce papers.

Do you remember when you first met Britney?
I met her at a club in Hollywood, Joseph's. Our eyes met and that was it. We just hit it off right away. I learned real fast how much of a whirlwind the press and everything was.

What are your happiest memories of the marriage?
Well, getting married. I never thought that I would get married but it wound up happening. That was a really, really, happy, exciting moment. I pretty much realized that I was giving my life to her, and I was doing it without question.

What went wrong?
It's hard enough to be in a marriage, and then have a kid, then kids, it changes everything. For me, I'd become more concerned with my children. Not that I ignored Britney, but my kids are always most important I mean, we were having complications. I didn't give her an ultimatum, but I was trying to work stuff out with her, and she didn't even talk to me or anything and went behind my back and filed [for divorce]. [I was] completely blindsided.

A lot of people assumed you fought for custody of the kids because of money.
My first question to [my lawyer] was, "Am I ever going to be able to see my children?" I told him that I would spend every last dime that I had to make sure that my children are okay. That's all that mattered. I didn't know how much power Britney had. That really scared me.

How did you react in January when Britney locked herself in the bathroom with Jayden and was later taken to the hospital on a gurney?
That whole night is a blur. You want to talk about one of my lowest points of depression, that was probably one of them. I was very, very worried for her 'cause I care about her. That's the mother of my children. Just because I'm not in love with her doesn't mean that I don't love her. I'm definitely rooting for her. There's nothing more that I want than for her to be in the best health and doing what she loves to do.

[From People]

Kevin has definitely matured a lot, there's no question about it, but considering what an ass he used to be he had nowhere to go but up. He did step up when his boys needed him and he deserves credit for that. It sounds like in this interview he completely skips over the fact that he left his girlfriend Shar Jackson, who was pregnant at the time with his second child, for Britney. Maybe that's all ancient history to him. The guy has gone through a lot and is moving forward with his life for the sake of his family. I wonder if he's still considering that reality show he was said to be shopping around. I wouldn't put it past him.

His SONS are "more important than anything"? What about his daughters? They're not important because they're mothered by someone less famous?

OOoooooh, NM. I just reread what he said. I get it.

Still, I bet his other children feel left out.

I believe K-fed's story that Brit was the dumper, he was the dumpee.

Honestly, I don't know why Britney wanted him in the first place!!! He and Shar were expecting their second child together and he (to me) was just unavailable or he SHOULD have been! By the way, he just has ONE daughter and another son, besides the two sons he has with Britney.

I cannot believe that anyone buys what this guy is selling. It is so obvious and contrived, right down to the fatherly cardigan on the cover of people. (Really, Kevin? A cardigan?)

Reread his comments in light of his ACTIONS, not the spin he wants you to believe.

Talking about his kids being so important and he'd spend every last dime to make sure they're ok.which kids? The ones that make bank or the ones you had with Shar?

I wonder how much he pays her to stay away from the press

The only thing sadder than having Britney as a mother is having this douche for a father.

Having grown up in a family where the child of a second marriage was always favored over the child of the first, I wonder about the pain his first children must feel.

It's a hurt that lasts a lifetime.

This bum is the worst kind of a gold-digger.

He married Britney just to take away her money and gamble and drink it away.

He didn't mind driving her crazy, just so he can have more money when he was not the one caring for the children.

If going to Vegas and partying and financing an entourage of idiots, while your children are home with the babysitter or your ex-wife- is "being a good and mature father"- then - yes- HE IS A THE FATHER OF THE YEAR.

I don't believe Kevin drove Brit crazy. I think she's always had problems. She can't be the easiest person in the world to live with. As for him going to Vegas while the kids are with his ex-wife, isn't that okay? Don't most divorced people do a little partying when the other parent has visitation?

He does seem to be a good dad. The kids look so much better - cleaner, healthier, happier - than they were when Britney had primary custody. Remember that one picture of Brit driving aimlessly around town while the two boys clutched each other's hands in the back seat, their little faces filthy, hair greasy? That one sticks in my mind.

I'll be glad when everyone gets off the pity party for Britney. You know, nothing's ever been officially stated as to her mental illness. We all just ASS U ME she's bipolar. But suddenly all her bizarre behavior is laid at the feet of that assumption. She was weird before she ever met KFed. She'll be weird the rest of her life. It's not his fault.

@Lizbeth - Thanks for saving me the bother of having to say all that - 100% behind your comment.

@Syko - I don't believe he drove Brit crazy either, not in the least, but I do believe that his primary interest in all this has been her money and he's as much a player as Britney is.

While I agree with most of what Syko said regarding KFed, I do want to point out that there wouldn't be a conservatorship if B was just irresponsible. It doesn't have to be bi-polar disorder to be a serious condition.

@IMO - 100% right on !

They're both right regarding who left the other one.

He left her first, by cheating on her in Vegas, and she never would have thought he could do that to her, just like all recently married women.

Then she filed for divorce and Kevin was utterly surprised, he never would have thought his insecure cash cow would divorce his sorry ass.

Whatever Kavin. How many times have we seen this guy at clubs in Vegas while he was still married to Britney with two new babies to look after. Were was he were Britney was alone with one baby and another on the way, oh that is right, out parting with strippers and gambling. And yet he wonders why Britney did not sit down and talk to him about there relationship but filed for a divorce, is because he was always out and she could not get hold of him.

It's kind of sad and pathetic that he will forever be riding Britney's coattails. I mean, really.timing this interview so that he can try and push his way into her time in the spotlight, yet again?? It's funny that Britney has an album coming out and is doing the publicity thing, so KEVIN takes the opportunity to do an interview with People. Loser! Man, it sucks that she is shackled with him as an ex for the rest of her life.

Can't he do ANYTHING for himself? Doesn't he get tired of following her, living off her, living in her shadow, and mooching off her fame? What kind of "man" lives this way?

sure seems like the posters are chock full of haterade today.

talk about being damned if you do, or damned if you don't. people will always want to throw him under the brit PR bus. he may be a dirtbag, but he loves all of his kids. (there are interviews with his ex who defends his parenting skills regardless of their relationship).

No matter the haters on Kevin, the guy did step forward when Britney melted down (which by the way was not his fault, she was always a bit bi-polar if you believe what her parents have been saying). He could have just said, whatever, like tons of other men do, but he didn't and he deserves a lot of credit for that. Sure, he could have done a heck of a lot better with his other kids, but that's not the way things are for him in that direction. it is quite possible shar made it difficult for him to see them or there's perhaps legal reasons he isn't involved with them like he is with preston and jayden so he's gonna focus on the two kids he is able to be involved with.

I don't think Kev is especially bright, or enormously motivated, but I do think he loves his kids and tries to do right by them.

I don't know if Brit has a confirmed mental illness or not, but I know whatever was going on in her brain this past year was detrimental to the boys. Kevin may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but he stepped up to look out for those boys when no one else could.

And wow, look at those cute lil cheeks. (on the bebes, not on Kev.)

Has anyone heard anything criticizing his level of involvement with the kids he and Shar Jackson have together? I feel like there hasn't been, certainly not from Shar Jackson, but maybe I'm missing something. I can't imagine Kevin Federline is any kind of catch at all, but he does seem to want his kids to be happy and healthy.

Ditto Cinderella!

I watched that MTV Britney mockumentary (yes it was a mockumentary of what a normal entertainer's life should be like) and was simply amazed at the vapidness of this woman.

She's so far out of touch with reality that it's not even possible that she could give an insight into her life, her fame, her problems. I just could not believe the intelligence level (and lack thereof) which shone brightly through anything she said. She seems no more in tune with her surroundings than she was a year ago and was completely childlike with respect to any level of self-awareness.

It was quite apparent that she will forever be able to be manipulated and used and is going to need constant care and handlers for the rest of her life.
